Roop Chandbalis
A pair of gem-set chandbalis consisting of a circular top holding concentric seven-petaled rosettes, kundan-set in polki, and glass cuts. Two twisted gold wires attached to round kundan-set units form a swing for the pair of red parrots perched on the gemstone drops. Suspended beneath are fringes of seed pearls and green glass beads.
Some of the decorations are bordered with cultured seed pearls and emerald beads using a technique called chakkar pirai.
The parrot, as the vahana (mount) of Kamadeva, son of Vishnu and Lakshmi, is considered to be the god of human love, desire, passion, and fertility. It is also a symbol of knowledge and learning.
